NAGGW Reviews Strategic Plan for Climate Change, Food Security, Others

A National Strategic Action Plan (NSAP) developed by the National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) in 2012 has finally been reviewed.

Top management staff of the Agency and other key stakeholders ratified the NSAP at a validation workshop, says Mrs. Sule Pauline.

Pauline, who is the Head, Press and Public Relations at NAGGW, in a statement obtained by PRNigeria, explained that the NSAP was developed for the implementation of the Great Green Wall Programme (GGWP) in Nigeria.

She said the workshop drew representatives from relevant Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), State Ministries of Environment and Forestry, and other related agencies, as well as Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), together with development partners.

Pauline quoted the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Environment, Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, as saying that, the objective of the workshop was to validate the proposed 2021-2025 NSAP for the implementation of the GGW programme in the country.

According to her, Enitan further stated that the old NSAP was developed seven years ago, hence the need to review it in order to give considerations to emerging concerns.

“Earlier in his remarks, Dr. Bukar Hassan, the Director General of NAGGW, implored the participants to thoroughly interact and produce an Action Plan that would meet the need of the Agency in addressing the challenges of desertification, land degradation, drought, climate change, biodiversity loss, and food security, amongst others, in the 11 frontline states,” she said.
