Provide Security for Borno Farmers, Zulum Begs COAS
Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has called on the leadership of the Nigerian Army to provide more support for farmers in his insurgency-ravaged State.
He made the request at the Army Headquarters on Monday during a courtesy visit to Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), in Abuja.
According to Zulum, who is a Professor, improving the means of livelihood for displaced persons and communities in Borno State is sine qua non for achieving lasting peace in the North East.
The Governor, who was accompanied to the Army Headquarters by the three Senators representing his State in the National Assembly, and two commissioners, stressed the need for stakeholders in the North East to ‘be on the same page’ to address the myriads of problems bedeviling the region.

While disclosing that Nigerian Army’s support boosted farming activities to about 25% in the State last year, Prof. Zulum, expressed belief that troops’ commitment in the ongoing counter-insurgency operation will create additional opportunities for agricultural activities to thrive in Borno.
He pledged to give his support to the Army in their bid to stabilize the North East, and to end the Boko Haram insurgency.
Responding, Lt. Gen. Attahiru, expressed gratitude to Zulum over the support he has continued to provide troops in Operation Lafiya Dole, which he said has boosted the laters’ morale.
He also applauded him for safely relocating thousands of IDPs to their ancestral homes, while also offering servant leadership to the people of Borno State.
The COAS, while assuring that his leadership will continue to work with the Borno State Government, said the Nigerian Army is doing everything possible to defeat both Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.
