COVID 19: Heed Protocols, Health Commissioner Tells Kaduna Residents

The Kaduna State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Amina Baloni, has advised residents of the State not to flout COVID-19 protocols, pointing out that they should take lessons from what is happening in India.

She gave the admonition at the Al-Ummah Medical Care Annual Health Talk at Kabala Doki community.

Dr. Baloni emphasized that Coronavirus, a deadly pandemic, mostly affects people with underlying sicknesses like hypertension and diabetes.

While addressing common misconceptions about the virus, the Commissioner said, “Most people are saying Coronavirus is not a poor man’s disease, it’s for the rich. About 10,000 people have been infected in Kaduna State and almost 72 people dead.

“Someone might say the death of 70 people from 9 million is nothing, not until your family is affected before you know that losing a single life is painful.”

The Commissioner also stressed that what health authorities have advised does not go against the religion.

She enjoined Kaduna residents to always put on face mask, avoid social gatherings and stay indoors when having cold or fever.

“Anybody that sees what is happening in India will know it is a very dangerous and disheartening situation. No more space in the hospitals, no drugs and no burial grounds. What is more disturbing than to see a dead body without a place to bury it?! So, I’m pleading we should be cautious and pray to the Almighty,” she said.

In his vote of thanks, the Head of Kabala Doki community, appreciated the Commissioner for her kind words and for taking out time from her tight schedule to grace the occasion.

He intimated Baloni on the impacts Al-Ummah medical care clinic has had on the community as it provides medication at subsidized rate, free antenatal care, girl-child education scholarship and promoting environmental sanitation.

He appealed to her to give all necessary supports to the foundation in upgrading its clinic and improving the quality of its services.
