CG Nababa unveils plan to upgrade NCoS Academy at Ijebu-Igbo
The Controller- General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa, has unveiled plans by his administration to upgrade the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) Academy at Ijebu-Igbo to international standard.
Nababa, while unveiling the plan, said the Academy will become fully operational, by the end of 2021.
The Controller-General, disclosed this while giving his inaugural address in a meeting with the management and field officers of NCoS, in Abuja.
According to him, the Directorate of Training and Staff Development is to initiate discussions with relevant authorities on modalities to secure affiliation/accreditation of courses to be offered in the Academy.

He further said his administration’s policy thrust shall cover safe custody and training of inmates; staff welfare; provision of logistics and infrastructure as well as their maintenance and full operationalization of the Non-Custodial Services.
“We shall adopt innovative strategies to strengthen the safety of all custodial centres including relevant formations across the country.
“Effort will be made to emplace technology driven security architecture.
“While the details may not be divulged here for obvious reasons, all field Commanders are however directed to take appropriate steps to ensure that our facilities are protected at all cost and never again shall any be invaded under any guise.
“In the same vein, I intend to attract more Public Private Partnership (PPP) programmes to strengthen vocational skills acquisition for the inmates as a continuum of the Shoes and Garment and Leather Factories in Aba and Janguza custodial centres respectively,” Nababa added.
