Why FCC Must Educate Nigerians on Their Mandates–Arabi

The Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Mr. Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, said there is need for the Federal Character Commission (FCC) to enlighten Nigerians about their constitutional mandates.

He said that was why FCC was selected as the guest agency for the December edition of their ‘Lunch-Time Reform Seminar’.

Arabi, spoke on Monday at the seminar themed: “Integrating Strategic Partnership with Critical Stakeholders and Advocacy on Balance Development and Employment in Nigeria”.

In order to attain rapid economic development, the BPSR helmsman, noted that Strategic Partnerships Initiative (SPI) and Balanced Regional Development are important pre-requisite, as the overall progress of the entire economy depends upon the balanced development of all regions of a country.

“To achieve a Balance Development, a principle of representativeness in which recruitment, enlightenment and distribution of other state resource aimed at establishing a fair balance of ethnic and regional representation in all federal government agencies and parastatals was introduced, known as the Federal Character Principle to be implemented by the Federal Character Commission (FCC).

“Considering the importance and relevance of the FCC and in view of numerous cries of unequal distribution of appointment and recruitment in the Public Service, the FCC has been invited to educate Nigerian on challenges faced in carrying out their mandate and ways they have been to solve these challenges,” he said.

Delivering the event’s paper, Dr. Muheeba Dankaka, the Executive Chairman of FCC, who was represented by her Special Adviser, F. O. Fakeye, said their FCC was established to close infrastructure and employment gaps such that no part of the country feels neglected, deprived or marginalized, in order to achieve the objective of balanced development.

She said: “Section 4(1)(d) of FCC (Established etc) Act gives the Commission a number of powers to enable it close the identified gaps”.
