Gov Zulum Visits IDPs Camp, Sympathizes with Fire Outbreak Victims

The Executive Governor Borno state Eng. Babagana Zulum has visited Muna Elbadawy IDP camp maiduguri on a sympathy visit over the fire Disaster which occurred at the camp yesterday.

He was conducted round the affected shelters by the zonal coordinator NEMA North East Usman Mohammad Aji and the Director General Borno state Emergency Management Agency Hajiya Yabawa Kolo.

The Director General NEMA Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed Habib has given the zonal office an approval to fast track the routine food distribution of food items and all necessary arrangements have been concluded to start the food distribution to provide immediate succor to the affected households.

The Governor during his remarks appreciated the gesture of the Agency with a promise to ensure adequate compensation for those affected through the state Emergency Agency BOSEMA

Meanwhile, NEMA, on Friday said one was killed, while 17 others were injured in a fire incident at Kalari Muna Elbadawy Internally Displaced  Persons, IDPs, camp, Maiduguri, Borno.

NEMA North East Spokesperson, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said that about 100 shelters were destroyed, while dozens of households in the camps were displaced as a result of the incident.

He said that the fire which started at about 1 pm from one of the IDPs tents, where one of them was cooking, was however, brought under control by the personnel of the State Fire Service.

Mr Ibrahim explained that officials of NEMA, Borno Emergency Management Agency, Nigerian Red Cross and other stakeholders had administered first aid to the injured victims.

He said that a combined team of the NEMA and the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, were on ground to assess the extent of destruction in the camp.

The camp consisted of more than 10,000 households and 50,000 individuals.
