How Inter-Services Sports Competition ‘ll Instill Discipline in Troops – Irabor
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Leo Irabor, on Tuesday, stated that the Inter-service Sports competitions will strengthening military ties, instilling discipline and provide team work that is needed for troops to function well during combat operations.
The CDS, Irabor made this known in a remark to sign off the 2022 Armed Forces Inter-service sports competitions (2022 AFISSC), at Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.
To withstand any warfare and grueling experience, the CDS said, the troops needed the ability to advance long distances with full combat gear through rugged terrains and to fight effectively requires strength, agility and stamina.
Irabor, represented by Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal, Oladayo Amao noted that the competition will provide both physiological and psychological benefits that will reduce stress, illness and injuries especially during operations.

He said: “The area of physical training especially through sports is one that requires much attention in order to better prepare for current and emerging challenges.
“The nature of insurgency and other internal security challenges which places huge demand on personnel combat readiness and thus necessitates the need to sustain high levels of physical fitness and combat alertness.”
Speaking further, CDS stated that with the AFN current engagements in several operations across the country, the need to maintain high level of physical fitness among troops is a necessity for operational successes.
According to the CDS, the Armed Forces Cross Country Team will be selected from the competition to represent the AFN in the 58 World Military Cross Country Competition slated to hold at Beja, Portugal next month.
The competition will be featuring Athletes from the Services of Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force to compete for laurels in 5 games which includes; Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Taekwondo and Volleyball during the competition.
The event however features a football competition between Nigeria Army and Nigeria Air Force.
