About 100 final year medical students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) were engaged for the exercise that took place in Dogon Daji and Kuchi towns of Tambuwal local government of Sokoto state.While the medical students offered free services, Hon. Dasuki provided drugs, testing equipment and treated mosquito nets also free.
The consultant of the medical outreach, Dr. Muhammad Yahaya said that the exercise aimed at providing free diagnoses for all types of illnesses, free drugs while surgery cases were referred to hospitals
“The free medical outreach was sponsored by Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki for his people that had any kind of sickness to be diagnosed and treated. Those found with ailments that required surgery were referred to hospitals for operation and the cost of such surgery was borne by him.
“Final year students of UDUS assisted for the free medical outreach while the drugs and testing kits were provided by the member of the Parliament to treat a total number of 6,000 people in Dogon Daji and Kuchi towns,” Dr. Yahaya said.
The team leader, Jabir Yakubu Imam said that the medical students were happy to provide free services. “We are always ready to assist any member of the society that is prepared to help the less privileged.”
One of the beneficiaries uplauded Dasuki for the gesture which she said “helped some of us who do not have the means to treat our ailments. You could see also that the services did not discriminate against people of other religions or tribes.”
Also, 50 year old Sanusi Abdullahi, who suffered from high blood pressure said, “I was at home when I heard about the free medical care. I did not have money to treat the high blood pressure but I am happy that I could access the service, free of charge.”
Hon. Dasuki who said that the first phase of the free medical care services started at Tambuwal and Kebbe would continue until all members of his constituency who suffer from one ailment or another is treated.
“There are many people in these towns and villages that are suffering from one sickness or another and most of them cannot afford costs of medical treatment. Government cannot do it alone. It is therefore my responsibility to come in by doing the little I can to assist those that need it.
“We started with Tambuwal and Kebbe towns in the first phase and the second phase is Dogon Daji and Kuchi towns. The third will target other places and so shall we continue,” Dasuki said.
