Again, US Ban new Huawei Equipments as the Coy Highlights 5G Benefits in Nigeria

Though the government of the United States of America (USA) accused Huawei as a national security threat, it has now banned the sale and importation of its new products.

Tech Digest reports that there have been great concerns in Nigeria and elsewhere about deep links between some of Huawei’s key staff and Chinese military intelligence – information Huawei had never disclosed before.

While not providing concrete reason for the sanction, the US federal communication adopted final rules and banned the sale or import of new equipment made by Huawei, citing “an unacceptable risk” to U.S. national security.

FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said the rules are an important part of the US’s ongoing actions to protect the American people from national security threats involving telecommunications.

However, Jessica didn’t cite any evidence of espionage. There were previous reports that claimed that Huawei staff attended the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Information Engineering University, which is widely known as China’s hub for information warfare research.

Though Huawei has not commented on this decision, but the Managing director, Huawei Tech Nigeria, Mr. Chris Lu highlighted benefits of 5G technology for economic growth.

Speaking during his presentation on “5G Opportunities in Nigeria” at the just concluded Zenith Tech Fair in Lagos, Lu identified numerous ways the fifth generation of network technology can help accelerate development and improve efficiencies in diverse sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Huawei has established a strong presence in Nigeria by working with local telecom operators to establish network connections with government, financial, and energy enterprises in the country.
