Political Thuggery: Police Warn Billboard Destroyers in Bauchi

In a bid to tackle crime and criminality in the bud, as the State is navigating toward the yuletide period and the electioneering campaign season, Command through sheer determination and doggedness, remains unwavering and committed in its quest to prevent hoodlums from subverting laws and order in the State.

Sequel to the ongoing electioneering campaign in the state, the Command observed with dismay, the violent behaviors of some political actors in the State.

Political stakeholders had been summoned by the Command recently in a quest for an enduring serene atmosphere that will guarantee the security of the electioneering process in the state and adherence to the Electoral Act 2022; the outcome of the Command’s engagements with political key players yielded positively.

The most recent condemnable incident which has been recorded by the Command so far was the destruction of billboards at some campaign offices across the metropolis.

Justice shall equally be served to all irrespective of political affiliation, tribe, or religion as the Command commenced investigation to bring anyone found culpable of such a dastardly act against freedom of expression.

Furthermore, the Command wishes to sound this warning and reiterate its stance in deploying all necessary assets available at its disposal to subdue and nip in the bud any attempt by miscreants to undermine law and order in the state. Hence, any individual or group harboring thugs in the state will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

The Commissioner of Police *CP Aminu Alhassan* psc (+), warns political actors to desist from destroying opponents’ billboards and to conduct themselves within the extant of the law, as anything short of these would attract full wrath of the law.

Meanwhile, on the 06th December 2022, Information received by Tafawa Balewa Divisional Police headquarters revealed that on the 05th December 2022 complainant (name withheld) ‘m’ aged 44yrs of Gongo village while returning from market, he saw flame coming out from the house of one Sunday Saleh (Deceased) ‘m’ aged 80yrs old of the same address. He rushed to the scene to ascertain what was happening. On arrival, he met one Haruna Ezekiel (suspect) ‘m’ aged 35yrs of the same address at the scene and discovered that he killed and burnt the said Sunday Saleh inside the house. He (the suspect) later, dug a shallow grave and buried the body behind the burnt house.

Preliminary investing revealed that the victim is a paternal uncle to the suspect, who alleged to have initiated the suspect’s son “Chomwanda” into witchcraft.

On investigation, it was revealed that the suspect discovered that the victim who is now deceased initiated his son into witchcraft unknowingly.

The suspect was told by his son that the victim gave him a piece of meat to eat some days ago. Later, the victim met the son and told him that the meat he ate was an initiation into witchcraft and that requires his father (the suspect) must be sacrificed in the process. On hearing this, the suspect was furious and confronted the victim about the matter, as the victim has long been suspected to be notorious for witchcraft. The victim (Sunday Sale) apologized to the suspect on the matter but the suspect was short-tempered and hit the victim with a stick on the head and fainted unconsciously. He dragged the victim’s body into his house and set the entire house ablaze. As a result, the victim’s body was burnt beyond recognition.

The suspect, therefore swiftly packed the burnt body and buried it in a shallow grave behind the house.

While reacting to the ugly incident, the Commissioner of Police CP Aminu Alhassan psc (+) frowned at the action of the suspect, who instead of reporting the to Police for proper investigation and prosecution, he took the law into his own hands, by gruesomely murdered the person he was suspecting without any recourse of the law.

RESCUE OF KIDNAPPING VICTIMS

On 07/12/2022, suspected kidnappers stormed Gurtum village in Palli District, Alkaleri LGA. The suspects abducted three persons all of Gurtum village to an unknown destination during the midnight raid.

Consequently, a team of Policemen and other local vigilantes led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Maina-Maji Division swiftly mobilized in a coordinated Operation. On reaching the scene, the kidnappers opened fire on sighting the operatives. While returning fire, the kidnappers were subdued as a result of sustained gunfire from the operatives, which forced the kidnappers to scamper away with possible gunshots and abandoned their victims.

The operation was successful, as all the victims were rescued unhurt and reunited with their family members, the victims were identified as;
Hafsatu Saidu ‘f’ aged 35yrs
Adama Sule ‘f’ aged 28yrs
Maryam Saidu ‘f’ aged 14yrs all of Gurtum Village Palli District Alkaleri LGA, Bauchi State.

The Commissioner of Police CP Aminu Alhassan psc (+) directed water-tight visibility patrols around the area in a bid to arrest the fleeing suspects.
