The role of Sustainable management of forests in the attainment of the United Nations's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has again been brought to the fore as Nigeria joins the rest of the world in the celebration of the international day of forests.

The Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Usman Jibril has averred that Nigeria will continue to ensure that support for actions aimed at the mitigation and adaptation of climate change receives topmost priority.

FG To Power Tertiary Institutions With Solar Energy

The Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Usman Jibril has disclosed that the Federal Government was set to power nine Universities in the country with Solar Energy as part of its efforts to ensure a clean and healthy environment.

The Minister gave this hint on Thursday, 9th March when he paid a working visit to the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Solar Energy Ltd (NSEL) Plant located in Karshi, Abuja.

Earlier in his address head of delegation, and Deputy Minister for External Economic Relations of the ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland Mr. Matti Anttoneu told Nigeria’s Minister that his delegation was in the country to seek collaboration in areas of economic development beneficial to environmental sustainability.

The Deputy Minister who led a 10-man delegation brought business proposals bothering on transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy, environmental health, communication technology, solar power, and waste management.

She further noted that all over the world, countries are making greener efforts and Nigeria as the giant of Africa and blessed with a practical President as Mohammadu Buhari cannot afford to be indifferent, hence the ministry will readily collaborate with countries such as the Republic of Korea who have vast experience and operate a green economy.

She also said that the Federal Government was willing to partner with other foreign investors in environmental sustainability.
