Having received adequate clarification considering the matters relied upon by the Senate in arriving at its decision, the President is therefore requesting the gracious indulgence of the Senate to favorably accept the re-nomination of Ibrahim Magu as Chairman of EFCC.

Also today Mr. President forwarded a correspondence to the Senate regarding the Senate resolution requesting the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr. Babachir Lawal to resign his position for breach of his oath of office.

The President in the correspondence read by the Senate President said he is unable to approve the recommendation of the Senate to remove and prosecute the SGF on the basis of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee report dated 15th December, 2016.

According to the President, the report forwarded to the presidency by the Senate which informed the decision that Engr. Babachir Lawal should resign and be prosecuted by the relevant authority was an interim report as against a final report which ought to have been presented to the Senate in a plenary for adoption as a binding and final report before submission to the Presidency given the weight of allegations made in the report.

The Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki today at plenary announced the removal of Senator Ali Ndume as the Senate Majority Leader.

The rejection of Ndume was contained in a correspondence from the caucus of the All Progress Congress. No reason was given for the action.

The letter also presented Senator Ahmed Lawan from Yobe North as the new Senate Leader.
