Two youth groups in Kaduna State under the aegis of My Kaduna and the Kaduna Youth Forum have declared total support for the State Governor, Dr. Mukhtar Ramalan Yero ahead of the 2015 governorship election.

Speaking during a joint solidarity visit to the governor at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House this Monday, leaders of the group said in view of the peaceful atmosphere and continuity of numerous developmental projects executed by the present administration, the groups have resolved to support Yero’s governorship ambition.

Coordinator of the My Kaduna Group, Yusuf Mohammed said Kaduna youths cannot be deceived by those he described as ‘opportunists’ aiming to come to power through ‘blackmail and propaganda’.

“We are aware of the many achievements of the present administration, especially the various youth empowerment programmes that have positively touched on the lives of unemployed youths in the State. Nobody can deceive us and we are solidly behind Governor Yero to remain in office come 2015,”  he said.

Also speaking, Coordinator of the Kaduna Youth Forum, Mukhtar Balarabe Jaji said the governor has assisted in youth development through the reintroduction of overseas scholarship programme and payment of bursary to students in tertiary institutions.

He said “the governor has performed creditably well and we must not allow those that lay claim to perfection to tell us otherwise. Governor Yero has provided jobs to many youths, he has constructed roads, he has improved hospitals and schools and above all, we now live in peace in our state.”

The groups therefore called on youths in the state to commence door to door campaign to drum up support for Yero, who they described as the youth governor.

In his response, Governor Yero cautioned youths in the state to continue to promote peace saying “as youths the state belong to you, I urge you to be ambassadors of peace because it is only through your individual and collective commitments that we can sustain the present peaceful atmosphere that we currently enjoy.”

The governor also called on youth to shun violence “you must desist from drug abuse because it has the capacity for self destruction. I will also call on you to desist from using derogatory words against elders and don’t allow anybody to influence you negatively to cause trouble before, during and after the coming elections.”

He called on youths and indeed the entire people of Kaduna State to actively participate in the forthcoming distribution of Permanent Voters Cards and the Continuous Voters Registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

The governor reminded people in the state of the significance of the permanent voters cards without which they cannot vote for candidates of their choice in the 2015 polls.
