The Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Anebi Joseph Garba on Wednesday, led participants at the on-going National Council on Fire meeting holding in Minna, Niger State to the palace of Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Dr. Abubakar Yahaya CFR.
At the palace, the CG told the Emir that the Nigerian Fire Service and stakeholders were in Minna for the 7th National Council on Fire annual meeting and had come to pay homage to the custodian of the people’s culture and tradition. He told the Emir further that the country’s Fire Service is being administered separately which does not enhance synergy, efficient and effective service delivery to the citizenry. Anebi stated that other sister organizations are unified and administered uniformly and called for the unification of the entire Fire Services in the country.
Responding, the Emir elated by the visit stated that the Fire Service is very significant to be neglected considering as its mandate is to save lives and property and in the process some of these firefighters loss their lives in the course of carrying out their assigned duties amidst plenty of risks and hazard. The Emir said although, the organization had several challenges to contain which include: inadequate equipment, facilities, trained manpower, poor welfare, e.t.c. Yet firefighters in the country despite these short comings are eager and willing at all times to forge ahead.
The Etsu Nupe, pledged his support for the unification of the Fire Services in the country to enhance service delivery in all departments of the organization. He requested the council to make available to his palace a copy of the summary of the resolutions at the end of the conference.
