The Federal Government has urged Public Servants in the country to imbibe the time-honoured virtues of training, retraining and adoptive skills in consonance with modern work practices and processes in order to help government evolve and promote programmes and policies that will move the country forward.

The Chairman Technical session of the National Council on Establishment and Permanent Secretary, Service Policy and Strategy Office in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, HajiyaNuratuBatagarawa made the urge today in her opening remarks at the 39th meeting of the officials of the National Council on Establishment holding in Minna, Niger State.
Mrs.Batagarawa said that to attain a world class status, the civil service has to rediscover itself and enthrone the culture of innovation both in imagination and routine work as well as develop appropriate tools for the anticipated change and emerging challenges.
Today’s civil service according to her, must not only be a change agent, but must also be able to institutionalise change in modern governance and societal development. “It must see itself as a tool for the promotion of growth, peace, stability, development, and democracy. It must encompass and exhibit values that inspire others, institutions and individuals to be creative, innovative, patriotic and productive. The civil service must move with contemporary times, especially in terms of technology, information, service delivery, and ideas or it would become irrelevant.” She said.
Earlier, the Niger State Head of Service Alhaji Muhammad Laude Lapai while declaring open the 39th Technical Session of the officials of the National Council on Establishment, urged the officials to shun all forms of bitterness, parochialism, or malice in their recommendations to the National Council, as it seeks to address the numerous challenges confronting the civil service in the country today.
The National Council on Establishment, comprising the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and Heads of Service of the thirty –six states of the Federation, meets yearly to deliberate on matters affecting the Civil Service and Public Servants in the country.
