Nigeria, Turkey Cooperate on Defence and Security

Nigeria and Turkey has agreed to partner together in the area of defence and security. This decision was reached during a biletaral meeting between the Defence Minister of Nigeria Mansur Dan-Ali and his Turkish counterpart Mr Nurettin Canikli held at Ministry of National Defence in Ankara.

The visit which is part of the President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Turkey for D-8 meeting also agreed to sign three Memorandum of Understanding on Military Cooperation Agreement (MCA) Military Training Cooperation Agreement(MTCA) and Defence Industry Cooperation Agreement (DICA). When ractified by the parliamements of the two countries the agreement will enable the training of personnel in both countrie’s military institutions and joint military exercises.

The Nigeria Defence Minister urged the Turkish government to support the present administrations efforts in promoting global peace and security.

In his response the Minister of National Defence Turkey Mr Canikli thanked Nigeria for containing the Boko Haram insurgency and call for closer cooperation with Nigeria which share alot of similarities with Turkey.
