Prison Inmates Perform at Yuletide Concert in Benin

It was moments of thrills and entertainment as inmates’ performances were marveled at in a concert show held at the Medium Security Prison Oko Benin City as part of the Yuletide celebrations for year 2017.

A total of 32 inmates gave what guests described as excellent performances as the inmates thrilled the audience by displaying skills acquired in singing, dancing, jokes, miming, musical instruments handling and with good drama presentations.

Team of guest artist at the Concert were “DJ Don C” of Courageous World Entertainment Benin City and “D Select” from Lagos while other invited guests include Commissioners of Youth and Special Duties; Art, Culture and Tourism; Local Government and Community Affairs and the Edo State Director of National Directorate of Employment (NDE), etc.

The concert show according to the Technical Director, ACP Julius Osemwingie is an innovative modern day inmates’ empowerment training and skills acquisition scheme among several others aimed at the re-socialization of prisoners and designed to achieve the mandates of the Prisons Service of inmates training, Reformation and rehabilitation as reinvigorated by the Controller General of the Nigerian Prisons Service, Ja’afaru Ahmed.

While also commending the inmates for their brilliant performances, the Controller of Prisons, CP Osayande O. Amadin assured them of a successful career in the multi-million naira entertainment industry should they put to good use these skills they have acquired.

CP Osayande who was represented by ACP Bridget Iyamu also called on the general public most especially wealthy individuals to support the efforts of the prisons by giving the inmates the much needed patronage and full cooperation without stigmatization or discrimination against them.
