Bauchi Police Recover 83 Prohibited Firearms, Eliminate Armed Robbers in Gun-Battle

You may recall that on 21/02/2018 The Inspector General of Police Ibrahim K. Idris NPM, mni, issued twenty one (21) days ultimatum (now extended to 30th April, 2018) to the general Public, individuals and groups who are in possession and using prohibited/illegal firearms to surrender them to the Commissioner of Police in the State they are domiciled and also directed the Commissioners of Police of all the State Commands of the Federation and FCT Commands to set-up Police Joint Task Enforcement Team in their States to commence the Mop-up, Seizure and Recovery of all illegal and prohibited firearms and ammunition from wrong hands.

In compliance with IGP directives the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command CP Sanusi Lemu, psc inaugurated Police Joint Task Enforcement Team to that effect.

Consequently, the Command has so far successfully recovered a total number of eighty three (83) prohibited/illegal firearms and seven hundred and two (702) live ammunition from suspected criminals and persons that voluntarily surrendered their firearms to the Command.

These include:
i. Thirty (30) AK47 rifles
ii. One (1) AK49 riffle
iii. Twenty (20) fabricated guns
iv. Five (5) Single Barrel guns
v. Two (2) Double guns
vi. Four (4) Pumps Action guns
vii. One (1) K2 riffle
viii. Twenty (20) Pistols
ix. Seven hundred and two (702) Live ammunition
x. Seventy cartridges (70)

On 06/04/2018 combined team of IGP Monitoring Unit in conjunction with a renowned hunter Alh. Ali Kwara acting on credible intelligence trailed three (3) suspected Armed Robbers to Maladunba forest in Misau LGA while planning to attack unsuspecting members of the public, on sighting the team the suspects engaged them on fierce shoot out which lasted for some minutes.

As a result the three (3) suspected Armed Robbers sustained fatal injuries and were taken to General Hospital Misau and Medical Doctor certified them dead.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include:
i. Three (3) AK47 Riffles
ii. One (1) locally made fabricated Double Barrel gun
iii. Two hundred and ten (210) live ammunition of 7.62mm caliber
iv. Six (6) cartridges of Double Barrel gun
v. Three (3) empty magazines of AK47 riffle
vi. One (1) Golf 3 wagon operational vehicle, silver in colour with reg. no.

vi. One (1) Cutlass
vii. Two pairs of Police Uniform
viii. The sum of sixteen thousand nine hundred naira (N16, 900:00).

Case is under investigation.

Finally, the Command calls on all individuals and groups who are yet to surrender Prohibited/Illegal Firearms in their possession to take advantage of the extension of ultimatum approved by the IGP and surrender such Firearms to the Command. The Command equally calls on the general public to avail the Police with useful information on persons in possession of firearms or where such firearms are kept or any information that will assist the Command in the fight against crime.
