Communities Applaud FG for Flood Control, water Projects in Adamawa
The Honourable Minister of Health, Professor Adewole, on behalf of the President, Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday 9th August Commissioned and handed over, the Ganye-Yelwa Ecological Fund Office Intervention Project. Also Commissioned and handed over was the Ganye-Daksam Road Erosion and Flood Control Works, Ganye LGA and Reconstruction of Jada Water Works System all in Adamawa State.
In his speech at the Commissioning ceremony, the Minister enlightened the audience that, the Project was executed by the Federal Government through the Ecological Fund Office (EFO), in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). Continuing, the Minister stated that, the completion of the Project has underscored the Federal Government’s effort and sincerity of purpose in tackling environmental problems in all parts of the Country in an attempt to make life more meaningful for the people. According to him the approval of the Project is a testimony to the Present Administration’s promise that, no part of the Country will suffer any neglect as a result of its geographical location or political consideration.

Professor Adewole extended appreciation to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha and the EFO. He also commended the Project Contractor Messrs Vacram Harding Ltd as well as the EFO supervisor for their perseverance in ensuring timely and speedy completion of the Project.
Going further, he extended the appreciation of the Federal Government to the entire people of Ganye-Yelwa Communities for their cooperation and provision of rancor free environment during the course of the Project execution. He implored all the people of the Communities to cherish the Project and to protect it by preventing indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the constructed drainage channels stressing that, it is the responsibility of the Communities to own and maintain the Project as well as to ensure its sustainability.
Earlier in her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Ecological Fund Office (EFO), Dr. Mrs Habiba Lawal shed light on the reason for the intervention on the two projects initiated by Senator Muhammad Mo’Allah Yidi. According to her, it was expidient to arrest the dilapidation and structural decay of the Ganye-Yelwa road which had provided the Communities access to conveying agricultural produce while the Ganye-Debora Daksam Road Erosion/Flood Control and the Reconstruction of Jada Water Works System was a request for an urgent intervention forwarded to the Ecological Fund Office in order to arrest the continuous structural decay of the Ganye-Dabora Darksam Road and Jada Water Supply Station which had provided the Communities access to conveying Agricultural Produce as well as Clean water for human consumption respectively.
Going forward, the Permanent Secretary who was represented by Mr Awal Sanni extended the appreciation of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha for representing the Federal Government at the event. She commended the efforts of the Project Contractor and Consultant for their prompt honouring of all contractual obligations by the EFO in ensuring implementation of the Project on scheduled time.
Dr. Habiba revealed that the Commissioning and Hand-over of the Project was expected to encourage the benefiting Communities to take ownership of the Project and so ensure its care and sustainability. The resources which the Federal Government had committed to the Project must not be allowed to waste she concluded.
Present at the event were members of the entourage of the Minister, Commissioner for Environment, Chairman Local Government, Community leaders and other members of the Community.
