Katsina Community Builds Schools, Seeks Govt Support
The District Head of Ketare with the Chieftancy title of Kanwa of Katsina, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara has appealed to the state government to take over the funding of secondary schools built by the community.
Alhaji Bello Kankara made the request when he led members of the community on a courtesy visit to the state Commissioner of Education, professor Badamasi Lawal Charanchi in his office.
He said the schools located in Pawwa and Tsamiyar Jino in Ketare district of Kankara local government were built and managed by the two communities in a bid to complement government efforts of reviving the lost glory of education in the state.
The monarch noted that the schools with about a population of about 2000 students were being maintained and financed by the community. He, therefore, called on the government to intervene by taking the responsibility of paying the remunerations of teaching and non-teaching staffs.
In his response, the commissioner of education, Professor Badamasi Lawal charanchi commended the traditional ruler and his delegation for engaging in communal projects to complement the efforts of the government especially on education.
Professor Charanchi who promised to study the request for approprite actions, directed his permanent secretary to submit a memo for constructions of additional classes for the communities by the government.
The commissioner also assured them of posting of additional and qualified teachers for the school.
