Highly placed individuals are fuelling Boko Haram attacks- Wakil

A human Rights Activist and peace negotiator, Aisha Wakil, has alleged that some highly placed individuals are responsible for the fuelling of attacks perpetrated by Boko Haram in the Northeast.

Wakil who disclosed this in an interview with TheCable also expressed her disapointment over spate of attacks perpetrated by the insurgemtd in the last two months.

She said that she was dismayed and hearbroken to learn that the fighters were said to be with the Boko Haram faction under the leadership of Abu-Mosad Al-Barnawi.

“The ressurgence of attacks suddenly came back recently as if everything is giong to start from the beggining. And this is very worrisome and annoying.

“I keep saying that this boys connot come on thier own and continue diong what they are diong. I believe people are asking them to do that. People are fuelling this wars.

“The boys want to surrender but people but the people sponsoring them aee hell bent in continuing the fight. But one day we shall hear the result. Allah will surely exposed then.

“When ever i ask them to surrender, they will say they cannot just comeout like that. They always say they are giong to kill them. But i always told them that no one will kill them if they come out, surrender and denounce sincerely.

“I am honestly disapointed to realised that he (Albarnawee), is still diong what he always said he is not giong to do. He always say he dosnt kill civilians, he dosnt bomb and that his fight was against the military men.

“But with the outbreak of the senseless killings giong on everywhere, it seems he has broken that promises,”she said.

Wakil suggested a collective and multi sectorial approach to end the war noting that all must stand and speak out loud to end the crises through dialogue.

“Yes, i have contact with the two groups and i keep on asking them when ever i hear of killings here and there. I always ask them why they continue diong that and they will say “Mama” please stop asking us.

“They said “Mama you always talk about peace, peace, but where is the window for the peace. We cannot fold our arms for the military to kill us. If we stop and not diong anything, they will strike and do you want us to fold our arms but i always urged them to stop it.

“I want to seize this oppotunity to call on my sons Habib Albarnawwi, Abba his younger brother and Mamman Nur to please stop the killings because of Allah. I want them to remember the teachings of thier father Muhammed Yusuf. He dosnt kill people massively and throw thier families into untold hardship.

“What is the essence of killing each other for so long. For how long is this giong to continue,”she querried.

Wakil is a human right activist was a member of the Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges Committee in the northern region constituted by former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Wakil had at various stages participated and played key role in negotiations between the military authorities and Boko Haram insurgents’ commanders, which facilitated released of numerous abductees from terrorists’ captivities.
