Police Warns Borno Politicians Against Thuggery and Violence
The Borno State Police Command has observed with dismay the violent disposition of supporters of the various political aspirants during political outings and other political meetings within the State.
These violent conducts include thuggery, possession and brandishing of dangerous weapons like knives, cutlasses, bows and arrows, broken bottles as well as hate speeches, blocking of access roads etc are not only capable of causing breach of public peace, but are also inimical to the peaceful and successful conduct of electioneering activities and the 2019 general elections proper across the State.
Against this backdrop, the Commissioner of Police, CP Damian A. Chukwu, hereby warns those involved in these brazen contravention of the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended), to desist forthwith or face the wrath of the law.
The Commissioner of Police further warns that the Command and other security agencies will not fold hands and watch unscrupulous elements jeopardize the evolving restoration of peace and security of the State. He therefore calls on all political actors in the State to endeavour to play by the rules, in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
