Governor Frees 37 Prison Inmates with N806,900 in Plateau
The Executive Governor of Plateau State Rt. Hon. Bar. Simon Bako Lalong visited Shendam Prison to commence his official duties in 2019. The Governor led the Criminal Justice Committee chaired by His Lordship, the Chief Judge of Plateau State Justice Yakubu Dakwak on the 1st round of jail delivery in the year.
The Governor stated during the visit that he was moved by the alarming number of youths in Prison detention which has myriad impact on national development. He promised to continually support the Nigerian Prison Service in improving conditions of prison facilities in the State in order to enhance effective delivery of its mandate.
The Governor paid the sum of N806, 900 as fines and compensations to secure the release of 37 inmates across prison facilities in the state. He also provided welfare materials and promised to send mattresses for inmates.
In a separate speech, the Controller of Prisons Plateau State Command Daniel O. Odharo, Extolled the Executive Governor for his friendly disposition towards the Service and timely intervention in the provision of prisoners needs. He reiterated the commitment of the Service towards improving the security situation in the state through the effective execution of her mandate.
