ASF Frances Supports 17 Inmates of Edo Correctional Service

The Edo State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) is to partner with Advocats Sans Frontieres/Lawyers Without Borders France (ASF France) a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) for the benefit of 17 Inmates.

Those to be selected will include the aged, possible underaged persons, those with critical health condition, etc. They will benefit from the NGO’s Pro Bono Service to ensure that their right to justice is protected and guaranteed.

The Controller of Corrections Edo State Command Joseph Usendiah assured that most of the areas of interest of the NGO are covered by the New NCS Act 2019. He said the Service has been vested with more opportunities for improved management of the Custodial facilities in the areas of Documentation, Decongestion of awaiting trial and mentally challenged persons, condemned convict, production in court, etc. Hence the visit is timely.

Mrs. Edugie Amihere who is the NGO’s Project Manager titled PROCAT Case Law Manager of ASF France in Nigeria earlier stated that the NGO aims at enhancing access to justice for victim of torture, the promotion of respect for human rights and the establishment of the rule of Law.

Mrs Amihere and her team commended the Correctional Service for the efforts at improving the conditions of the inmates and stated that the NGO will contribute to this by further pursuing support for the Service among other stakeholders in the Criminal Justice sector.
