IPCR Signs MOU with IPC on Peace Building

The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU with International Peace Commission (IPC) toward peace promotion, research and capacity building in Nigeria.

IPC is a Non-Governmental Organization with Head-quarters in Missouri, United States of America registered with Corporate Affairs Commission in Nigeria with the main objective of achieving peaceful co-existence.

In his remarks during the signing ceremony on Tuesday 16th October, 2019 in Abuja, the Director General Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Dr. Bakut T. Bakut said that the two organizations agreed to partner with a view to achieving peacebuilding and conflict prevention in the country.

Bakut said that the agreement centered on conflict prevention; research; sensitization and advocacy; election observation as well as training of electoral officers.

He explained that the two organizations also agreed to interface with stakeholders especially security agencies, traditional leaders and religious leaders on the key strategies that would improve peaceful co-existence.

He enthused: “The collaboration will go a long way to impact peace in the country. It will help us to work together to ensure peaceful conduct of elections.”

The MOU would also facilitate opportunity for the two organizations to re-orientate, reintegrate and rehabilitate victims of conflict in conflict areas in Nigeria, amongst others.

Speaking at the occasion, the Head of Mission, National Peace Commission, Amb. Obiora Tony Odumah appreciated the Director General, IPCR Dr. Bakut T. Bakut for his commitment and determination towards achieving peace and tranquility in Nigeria.

Amb. Odumah assured that the International Peace Commission would work within the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding, adding, “we are going to work in-line with the objective of the MoU.”
