Participants Score NBC Lecture High

Majority of the participants at the just concluded 5th annual lecture of the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) say the event was one of the best they have attended.

The event which featured top of the shelf discussions on the broadcast industry in Nigeria, saw a constellation of stakeholders in attendance. Some of the participants who spoke at the end of the event noted that unlike in the past this year’s lecture “carried everyone along” and also dwelt on one of the most important issues of the moment: broadcasting to foster national cohesion and growth.

Apart from the key note lecture delivered by Professor Ahmed Adams, the array of discussants including PR guru, Yushau Shuaib, did justice to the subject. Shuaibu dwelt on the phenomenon of the social media, stressing that the genre has come to stay. He said the traditional media is greatly depending on SM too and must find ways to exist side by side with it.

Shuaibu admonished users to however cross check on all their sources before publishing reports. He said no matter how believable a source is, it has to be subjected to tests to verify authenticity. Meanwhile, apart from the venerable Dr. Tom Adaba who was in attendance, practically all former top directors of NBC came. Some students of the University of Abuja said the lecture expanded their scope of understanding, especially with social media issues.

A participant who gave her name as Foluke said “I was in previous events but this one is the best, given the level of preparation and presentation seen here today. It is a good thing it is coming when this government is about to take off in the second term. It is thus an agenda setting session for the information subsector.”
