Fact-Check: Did Bashir Machina Resign His APC Membership, Withdraw From Senatorial Race?
Claim: A letter surfaced online purporting that Bashir Machina, Yobe North Senatorial Candidate under the All Progressives Congress (APC) had resigned his membership of the party and withdrawn from the race.
Full text: copy of the letter which was addressed to the APC National Chairman reads:
“I write to notify you of my resignation from All progressive congress (APC), I am by this letter also informing you of my withdrawal from the Yobe north senatorial race.
“The decision was taking due to my personal reasons related to misunderstanding between aÀI and the leadership of the APC in Yobe state. It’s my hope to reconcile the issues in close door but unfortunately I was not opportune to made it (sic).
“It’s my pleasure to use this medium to thank all my supporters for your solidarity and love
“I wish to Thank you personally for your graciousness and leadership. l also wish you best of luck in service for the party,” the letter concludes.
Machina has been at loggerheads with Senate President over the Senatorial ticket after a foiled Presidential bid by Ahmad Lawan.

PRNigeria‘s research reveals that the embattled Senatorial candidate, has denied withdrawing from contest for the Senate President Ahmad Lawan as reported here, here and here.
In a statement Sunday evening, Mr Machina, said that he was still in the race and did not resign from the party.
“I want to state unequivocally that the purported letter was forged. I did not at anytime withdraw nor resign from my party.
“I was shocked when I discovered that some persons concocted plans to mislead the public particularly my supporters into believing that I have withdrawn,” the statement reads in part.
He faulted descrepancies in the purported letter which he said was due to lack of sufficient administrative knowledge on the part of the authors.
He however charged the APC National Secretariat to speak up on the matter since the letter had the official stamp of the party on it.

Vowing to continue pursuing his senatorial ambition on the platform of the APC, Mr Machina disclosed that he instructed his lawyers to take necessary legal action over the issue.
In a bid to verify the authenticity of the denial, PRNigeria reached out to and spoke to honourable Bashir Machina through his media aide, Husaini Mohammed Isah who confirmed the authenticity of the press release from Machina’s camp.
Conclusion: based on available public statement and Machina’s confirmation to PRNigeria, claims that he has withdrawn his Senatorial bid and resigned from the APC is FALSE.
