Ganduje Proactively Tackled Flooding in Kano- Commissioner Tells Arewa Stars Award Team

Kano state governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has been very proactive in tackling flooding in the state leading to minimal surge as against massive flooding and casualties recorded in other parts of the country.

The commissioner for Water Resources, Mallam Garba Yusuf made the disclosure when he received a delegation from Arewa Agenda

According to him, the government had ordered the immediate marking and demolition of all existing structures built on waterways that led to the destruction of properties worth millions of naira during the flooding.

“The government then approved a substantial amount of money for the construction of roundabouts and the rehabilitation and maintenance of roads destroyed by floods,” he added.

The Commissioner also commended Image Merchants Promotion Ltd (IMPR), publishers of PRNigeria, Arewa Agenda and other titles, for initiating the upcoming Arewa Stars Award and Conference (ASA22).

He also thanked the organisers for the proposed honour on the state government.

“The 30 under 30 Arewa stars Award is standard positive thinking and a masterpiece in the history of the North. It is a revolutionary initiative that will bring back our culture and norms of recognising efforts which gives one the courage to do more,” Mallam Yusuf said.

While assuring the team of his support towards the actualisation of the maiden event, he urged the organisers to ensure all the awards confered on individuals and organisations are strictly based on merit for the sake of posterity.

He also seized the opportunity to commend PRNigeria for its fact-checking.

“Fact-checking has shown that the field of journalism will now face the reality of life as greater percentage of information being consumed before now were fake. I commend your editors whose strides are worthy of emulation,” he added.

Earlier the leader of the delegation, Adnan Mukhtar, had said that the state government was nominated for recognition at the award ceremony due to its strides in free education, security and agriculture.

Meanwhile the first Arewa Stars Award is scheduled to hold on the 3rd of December, 2022 in Kano.

The award is instituted to honour thirty outstanding young best and brightest Northern Nigerians under 30 years of age who are doing great and impactful work in various sectors of human endeavours.

The grand event will feature the 30 under 30 Awards, Panel Discussions, Disruptive Tech Exhibit, Honorary Awards for Mentorship, Philantropy and Humanitarian Services, Organisational recognitions, Entertainment (Music, Filmmaking, Videography), Dinner Night and a Grand Book Launch of the translated version of 101 Fake News on EndSARS.

Nominations are ongoing as entry closes on the 8th of November 2022.
