FACT-CHECK: Did Jonathan Castigate Fulani Candidate, Muslim-Muslim Ticket for Presidential Election?

CLAIM: A 92-word Facebook post emerged online claiming that former President Goodluck Jonathan made remarks on his preference for Presidential candidate.

FULL-TEXT: In a widely circulated post on social media, especially Facebook and WhatsApp platforms, it claimed that Jonathan stated thus: “I am not campaigning for any candidate in the 2023 presidential election but we have to think very well before taking some actions in this country.

“Is it good for a Fulani man to hand over power to another Fulani man?

“Is it good for a Muslim to hand over power to another Muslim-Muslim?

“Remember that in Nigeria, once something starts, it is always difficult to stop it.

“Do not take action that you will not be able to stop tomorrow when it doesn’t favour you. Vote with your sense, not sentiment. – Goodluck Jonathan”

VERIFICATION: PRNigeria checked the social media accounts of former President Goodluck Jonathan and could not find such statements in any of his posts.

Meanwhile, the post was found on Facebook Page of South East Nigeria  dated January 27, 2023.

However, PRNigeria observed that the last time Jonathan posted on his Facebook before this Fact-Check was January 16 while his last Tweet was January 1, 2023.

Similarly, here was no any release from his media aide, Paul Ibe.

CONCLUSION:

From the foregoing, PRNigeria therefore concludes that the claim that former President Goodluck Jonathan madinsinuation against Fulani and Muslim-Muslim Ticket in 2023 Presidential Election is FALSE.
