Fact-Check: Did Peter Obi Score Over 1million Votes in Plateau?

Claim from the Twitter user

Fact-Check: Did Peter Obi Score Over 1million Votes in Plateau?

Claim: A Twitter user as well as other blogs claim that the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) polled 1,125,400 votes in Plateau state.

Full Text: The user Alpha De Great tweeted, “Plateau State Presidential.

APC 150,134

PDP- 450,329

LP- 1,125,400

Plateau state for North Central vote done swallow Ekiti, Ogun and Ondo..”

The tweet which generated over 254,400, over 2000 retweets and comments generated mixed reactions from various supporters.

Verification: As at the time this claim started making the rounds, the total results of votes cast from the entire 17 Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau state have not been fully announced.

As at the time of filing this report, seven more LGAs are still been awaited.

However, of the ten so far announced, PRNigeria reports that the Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) Peter Obi has won at least eight out of the ten Local Government Areas declared in Plateau State.

PRNigeria also reports that the presidential candidate of PDP, Atiku Abubakar also won two LGAs in the State and the official results announced are as follows:

Jos South LGA

APC: 15,985

PDP: 13,803

LP: 112,874

Mangu LGA

APC: 22,691

PDP: 27,013

LP: 39,387

Bassa LGA

APC: 16,007

PDP: 11,306

LP: 28,226.

Langtang North LGA,

LP 21, 590

PDP 17, 751

APC 8, 706

In Jos East LGA

LP 6, 386

APC 6, 348

PDP 5, 144

Bokkos LGA

LP 32, 581

APC 10, 858

PDP 8, 569

In Langtang South LGA,

PDP 12, 467

APC 7, 478

LP 6, 045

Barkin Ladi LGA

LP 32,489

APC 12,514

PDP 9,073

Riyom LGA,

Labour Party 15,171

PDP 8,181

APC 6, 936

In Mikang LGA,

PDP 7,211

LP 7,201

APC 5,044

The total number of votes scored by the LP candidate in the 10 of the 17 LGA of Plateau state so far is 301,950 which is greater than the remaining half expected especially since most of the largest LGA’s like Jos North, Jos South, Riyom etc have already been announced.

PRNigeria reports that the total number of registered voters in Plateau is 2,789,528 however, the total number of voters accredited to cast their ballot has yet to be announced.

Conclusion: While the Labour Party is leading in the most of the results so far announced, the total number of his votes is less than half of a million and not 1,125,400 as claimed by a Twitter user as the results have yet to be fully announced.

PRNigeria therefore concludes that the claim is FALSE.
