Tinubu's boys reportedly set Ladipo Market on fire

FACT-CHECK: Did Tinubu Supporters Set Lagos Ladipo Market on Fire?

CLAIM: PRNigeria detected a  28-minute video of a razing structure that was “forwarded many times” to Whatsapp groups claiming that the Ladipo market which is dominantly occupied by Igbos had been set on fire by supporters of the presidential candidate for All Progressive Congress, APC, Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

FULL-TEXT: The text that accompanied the footage reads: “Tinubu’s boys torched Ladipo Market today 27th Feb. 2023 in revenge for APCs Tinubu losing the election to Obi and Labour Party in Lagos. Right now, they are trying to torch Balogun. They are rioting to chase away Igbo traders from that area now.”

VERIFICATION: PRNigeria did a keyword search and the result revealed that the last time the fire incident happened was last year and the cause of the inferno was unknown.

According to the claimer, Tinubu’s boys razed the market following the announcement of Peter Obi as the winner of the presidential election in Lagos.

Using the Facebook search bar, PRNigeria got a video of the general leader of the market, Mr. Nwafor falsifying the claim.

He said,” Today being the 27th of February, I want to use this opportunity to debunk the rumor that is going around that the Ladipo  Market is on fire…”

CONCLUSION: Facts gathered by PRNigeria revealed that the last time the market had a fire incident was last year February.

Therefore, PRNigeria, concludes that the claim is FALSE.
