Fact-Check: Did INEC Upload the Same Presidential Results for Gombe and Bauchi on IREV?
Claims: There is an image supposedly from the INEC Result Viewing Portal – IREV – going viral on social media which claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, uploaded the same presidential election results for both Gombe and Bauchi States.
Full statement: The image was accompanied by the following text: “SPOT THE SIMILARITY !! Same scores for Bauchi and Gombe? What INEC cannot do does not exist ????????♂ They are not even smart at all”
Verification: To verify the claim, PRNigeria visited the Independent National Electoral Commission result viewing portal, IREV. The portal displayed various hyperlinks to results for the Presidential elections, Senatorial elections, House of Representatives elections and other recent gubernatorial elections among others.
While the results for Senatorial, Governorship, House of Representatives among others all displayed, the presidential election results have also been uploaded and available on the site.
Meanwhile from the official declaration of result by INEC at the National Collation Center, the two states in contention got different results. In Gombe State, APC got 146,977; LP – 26,160; NNPP – 10,520 and PDP – 319,123. In Bauchi state, the score is as follows APC – 316,694, LP – 27,373 NNPP – 72,103 and PDP – 426,607.
Conclusion: As at the time of conducting this Fact-Check, the presidential elections results of Gombe and Bauchi states have different results as against the claim on the social media.
PRNigeria, therefore, concludes that the claim that Bauchi and Gombe shared the same results from the Presidential elections is FALSE.
