The Nigerian Navy, in collaboration with Villa Homes and Construction Limited, and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, FMBN, has built an Estate for its personnel.

Tagged Sailors Homes Estate, the housing project comprises 138 units of flats. It is located along Air Road in Abuja.

At the groundbreaking ceremony of the Estate, Chief of the Naval Staff, CNS, Vice Admiral Awwalu Zubairu Gambo, appreciated Villa Homes and Construction Limited, the Federal Mortgage Bank as well as the Nigerian Navy Holdings Limited for ensuring that the initiative comes to reality.

He said: “Pertinently, the Nigerian Navy is cognisant of the significance of shelter as an essential basic need, which undoubtedly has influence on operational efficiency.

“Consequently, the impact of affordable and decent housing to personnel cannot be quantified as it is adjudged a veritable tool for motivation and a morale booster.

“It is in this regard, the Nigerian Navy over the years continued to prioritize home ownership in the hierarchy of its preferences”.

The Naval Chief revealed that the Sailors Homes Estate in Kyami, Abuja, will be made of modern and standard infrastructure with smart and functional house designs to enable subscribers to select houses of their choice, whose mode of payment will be through mortgage.

“This again underscores the premium placed by the Nigerian Navy under my watch on personnel welfare. It is therefore instructive that personnel take advantage of this opportunity to own a home of their own along the airport road,” Admiral Gambo said.

Managing Director of Villa Homes and Construction Limited, Mrs. Gloria Amabiwendi, explained that the Sailors Homes Estate project is driven by a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, between their company, the Nigerian Navy and the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria to provide housing for serving navy personnel.

She said: “This estate, comprising of 148 units of flats (2/3 Bedrooms), is sitting on a 4 out of 10 hectares of land and will be developed in phases for officers and men of the Nigerian Navy.

“It will be an estate that will boast of world-class modern and standard infrastructure. We have equally come up with smart and functional house designs to enable subscribers make their choices”.
