Rebooting Nigeria Via the Template of NIPR’s Citizens Summit

By Kabir Abdulsalam

The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) recently unveiled its much-anticipated Citizens Summit Report tagged, ‘Reboot Nigeria 2.0’, in a landmark occasion that represented a significant a step towards constructive nation-building.

The report, an outcome of well-research and candid public engagement, aims to address the pressing challenges facing Nigeria, while providing a platform for citizens to voice their concerns and actively participate in shaping the nation’s future.

Presenting the highlights of the report was Prof. Emmanuel Samu Dandaura, whose thought-provoking insights underscored the urgency of taking actionable steps based on the report’s findings.

The ‘Reboot Nigeria 2.0 Citizens Summit Report’ is the result of a comprehensive and objective assessment of the current state of the nation.

The NIPR, in collaboration with various stakeholders, embarked on a mission to gather information from credible sources and analyze the multifaceted challenges confronting the country.

From economic disparities and social inequalities to security concerns and political tensions, the report sought to provide a comprehensive overview of Nigeria’s most critical issues.

Central to the conception of this initiative was the recognition that citizens, both within the country and the Nigerian diaspora, yearned for a dedicated platform to peacefully ventilate their concerns.

More than just a forum for grievances, the document serves to foster a culture of dialogue and engagement, allowing citizens to actively contribute to the conversation on nation-building.

The report sought to promote a culture of debate and involvement rather than merely serving as a venue for complaints, enabling citizens to actively participate in the discussion on nation-building.

Moreover, the report goes beyond merely highlighting issues, as it also proffers realistic and actionable solutions, a testament to the commitment of NIPR to play an instrumental role in Nigeria’s progress.

During the unveiling of the NIPR Citizens Summit Report, Prof. Emmanuel Samu Dandaura delivered a stirring presentation, underscoring the significance of the report’s findings.

Addressing the Nigerian government directly, Prof. Dandaura emphasized the importance of not allowing this crucial report to suffer the same fate as some previous reports that remained unaddressed and forgotten.

“This report provides the framework for installation of Nigeria 2.0 with series of strategic activities and programmes. This 165-page strategy printed in full colours conceptualizes Nigeria 2.0 framework to include 15 critical areas couched in 17 chapters as follows:
Chapter 1: Introduction
Chapter 2: Youth as Nigeria’s Future
Chapter 3: Reputation as a Core National Asset
Chapter 4: Rebuilding Trust through Inclusive Governance
Chapter 5: Repositioning Nigeria for Global Competitiveness
Chapter 6: Civil Society Organisations
Chapter 7: Mediation and Reconciliation for National Integration
Chapter 8: Education for Development
Chapter 9: Communication Culture
Chapter 10: Core National Values
Chapter 11: Traditional Institutions and Sustainable Peace Building
Chapter 12: Mechanisms for National Integration
Chapter 13: Security Strategies and Dynamic Engagements
Chapter 14: Sustainable Governance Model
Chapter 15: Reworking the Economy for Greater Productivity
Chapter 16: Nigerians in Diaspora as Catalysts for National Integration
Chapter 17: General Recommendations and Next Steps,” he said.

Indeed, the Citizen Summit’s report assures me that the framework for Nigeria 2.0 is not only ready, but because the ideas contained in this report came from Nigerians from all strata, I dare say it has been installed.

What is left is a job NIPR and its 199 partners on this project cannot do by themselves. Nigerians at home and abroad have a role to play in the next step and what is that all important step? We need to join hands to REBOOTING NIGERIA!
