NAF Boss Charges Commanders on Maintaining High Level of Professionalism

In a significant gathering of Nigerian Air Force (NAF) commanders, including branch heads, directors, commandants, and air component commanders, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, emphasized the immense responsibility entrusted to NAF personnel by the Nigerian people in ensuring their safety and well-being.

The CAS underscored the critical role of the Armed Forces of Nigeria in clearing areas of criminals and their activities, stressing that failure was not an option.

Air Marshal Abubakar made these remarks during a meeting with key appointment holders and commanders of the NAF. He urged them to use this opportunity to strategize for enhanced NAF operations, improved logistics support systems, and maintenance practices. The goal is to ensure the serviceability of air assets, enabling the optimal use of airpower capabilities in joint operations.

The CAS also highlighted the recent acquisition of additional air assets by the Federal Government, mentioning the delivery of two Diamond-62 Multi-Purpose Platform aircraft in Ilorin, Kwara State. He noted that these new platforms would significantly bolster NAF’s capabilities in addressing insurgents, terrorists, and other criminal elements in the country.

Air Marshal Abubakar expressed his gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the continued support in addressing operational, training, and welfare needs. He assured Nigerians of the NAF’s unwavering commitment to working alongside other security agencies to ensure a safe, secure, united, and prosperous nation.

The Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal Sayo Olatunde, emphasized that commanders must not only see themselves as leaders but also as managers and mentors to their subordinates.

Command carries the responsibility to effectively utilize resources and oversee personnel’s welfare, morale, and discipline. He encouraged senior officers to approach the meeting with an open mind, ready to embrace new ideas and enhance their command responsibilities.

During the two-day meeting, lectures will cover unit administration, command responsibilities, CAS command philosophy, and a review of ongoing counterinsurgency and counterterrorism operations.
