Saudi Arabia to Host 2027 Arab Energy Conference

Saudi Arabia has been selected to host the 13th Arab Energy Conference in Riyadh in 2027, highlighting the country’s important role in the regional and global energy sector.

The decision was announced during the concluding statement of the 12th Arab Energy Conference, held in Doha, Qatar.

According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Arab Energy Conference is a key event that brings together energy experts, policymakers, and business leaders from across the region to discuss the latest developments and challenges in the energy sector.

Saudi Arabia’s selection to host the 2027 conference reflects its leading role in the region’s energy market.

The conference has been instrumental in advancing dialogue and collaboration among energy-producing and consuming nations in the Arab world and beyond. Through the conference, countries have been able to share best practices, identify opportunities for cooperation, and find solutions to common challenges in the energy sector. In recent years, the conference has also focused on addressing the energy transition and the move towards a low-carbon future.

The 12th Arab Energy Conference was organised by the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC), in cooperation with the League of Arab States, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, and the Arab Organisation for Industrial Development, Standardisation and Mining. The conference brought together representatives from all these organisations, as well as experts and policy-makers from across the region. The purpose of the conference was to discuss the latest developments in the global energy sector, and their implications for the Arab world.

The 2027 event will focuse on a range of topics related to energy security, the environment, sustainable development, energy resources, downstream industries, energy demand management, and technological advancements. These topics were addressed through a series of panel discussions, presentations, and workshops, allowing for a comprehensive examination of the issues and opportunities facing the Arab energy sector. The conference also provided a platform for networking and knowledge-sharing among participants.

Saudi Arabia’s role as host of the 13th edition of the Conference aligns with its leadership position in global energy forums, including the G20 and the Clean Energy Ministerial. This position allows the Kingdom to promote regional knowledge and environmental concerns on the world stage.

During the COP28 conference in Dubai, Jean-François Gagne, head of the secretariat at the Clean Energy Ministerial, emphasised the importance of regional collaboration in achieving climate change goals.

According to Gagne, “Saudi Arabia has the advantage of being at the G20 table, allowing it to play a leadership role in bringing regional knowledge and environmental concerns to the international table. This is crucial because we need all regions of the world to move forward together.” He added that, “When you have regional champions, it really helps to make sure that no one is left behind in terms of advancing our clean energy goals.”
