“We are passionate about implementing the policy on child adoption. This ensures that no Nigerian child will be smuggled out of the country without proper documentation. Anyone found culpable will be declared wanted. We won’t tolerate the maltreatment of our children any longer”, she said.
The minister noted that while having a house helper is acceptable, maltreating the child is never acceptable. “That’s why we urge all Nigerians to be vigilant and report any suspected cases. I assure you that we will take decisive action against such maltreatment”, she said.
“We will continue our awareness campaigns and partner with relevant stakeholders and the media to combat this issue effectively.”
Uju also urges parents to take full responsibility for their children’s well-being.
“I urge parents to only have as many children as they can responsibly care for. Those who choose to place their children in the care of others should rigorously follow up on their well-being”, she added.
