NANS Condemns ASUU Strike in UNIABUJA, Urges Lecturers to Ignore Directive
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has strongly condemned the internal strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) branch. The national leadership of NANS expressed disappointment and concern over the strike on flimsy reasons.
The National President of NANS, Comrade Lucky Emonofe made a condemnation is a statement sent to PRNigeria.
According to NANS, ASUU has a history of ignoring the interests and plight of Nigerian students and parents, opting for strike actions instead of exploring other dispute resolution options. The union noted that between 2020 and 2023, the Nigerian university system lost over 16 months to ASUU strikes, which is unacceptable.

However, NANS commended the large section of UNIABUJA lecturers who rejected and dissociated themselves from the strike action, as well as the university’s members of the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) and the Congress of Nigerian Universities Academics (CONUA) for also rejecting the strike.
NANS urged the striking lecturers to resume work immediately, stating that strike actions only disrupt, derail, and destroy, but never address any problems. The union also commended the House of Representatives Committee on University Education for their prompt intervention and call on the striking lecturers to return to work.
NANS assured the Federal Government and the University of Abuja Management of their understanding and support should they take appropriate steps to bring the strike to an end. The union emphasized that an injury to one is an injury to all and urged all men and women of goodwill to reject the action of the striking lecturers.
