Nationwide Protest: Kano Elders Caution Against Violence
As Nigerian youth set to take the street in protest against hunger and general economic hardship between August 1 and 10, 2024, Kano State elders have cautioned against violent demonstration that may lead to destruction of lives and properties.
They made this appeal through Professor Muhammad Musa Borodo, a professor of Medicine, in video broadcast where they called on both citizens and government to work towards protecting the integrity of the country.
His words, “We commend your patience and perseverance thus far amidst the current economic situation in ensuring peace reigns in our state. Undoubtedly, the situation has been challenging, and everyone from citizens to government officials acknowledges this. We call on the government and stakeholders to critically examine the situation and provide solutions to alleviate hardship which has led to calls for a nationwide protest.

“We appeal to those clamouring for protest to take a moment to reflect on its potential impact. We must be cautious not to allow opportunists to hijack the exercise, shifting its intent and resulting in destruction of lives and properties.
“Therefore, we urge Nigerians to exercise caution, ensuring that protests do not lead to unnecessary unrest, and consider alternative ways of pushing their demands to government.
“The history of protests in this country is marred by destruction of properties. We pray and hope that the government addresses the people’s needs for a peaceful resolution, as whatever cannot be achieved through peace, chaos cannot provide.
” We strongly advise Nigerians against protests that may lead to destruction of national assets and tarnish our image”.
