Fact-Check: Did #EndBadGovernance Protesters Loot Dangote’s Mother’s Store in Kano?

A viral Facebook post emerged claiming the mother of Africa’s richest man and business magnet, Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s mother, Hajiya Mariya Sanusi Dantata, has forgiven angry youths who broke and looted her store during the #Endbadgovernance protest in Kano.

The post has been shared by numerous users, largely on Facebook.

PRNigeria conducted a keyword search using the claimant’s username Nura Ado Faruwa, and results revealed there was no such post. However, PRNigeria observed that the post was republished with his name as the originator of the post before he finally deleted it.

PRNigeria further searched online to find out if there was an official statement regarding her forgiveness but found no such announcement.

Speaking to one of her staff members, PRNigeria confirmed that indeed her store was looted.

“Food items ranging from rice, sugar, and flour were stolen from her Koki residence in Kano city on the first day of the ‘EndBadGovernance’ protests,” the aide who wished to remain anonymous told PRNigeria.

He further revealed that Dangote’s mother was currently in Mecca observing the lesser Hajj (pilgrimage) and was even unaware of the incident.

“She didn’t even know her store was broken into and looted. So, the claim that she had forgiven them is a blatant lie.”

Conclusion

Based on this information, PRNigeria concludes that indeed Dangote’s Mother’s store was looted during the nationwide #EndBadGovernance protest while she was in Mecca, Saudi Arabia on lesser Hajj. While it is true that her store was looted, the claim that she has forgiven the culprits is False as at today August 4, 2024.
