Kano Prison Debunks Reports of Poor Inmate Welfare
The Kano state command of the Nigerian Correctional Service has denied reports that inmates in its facilities are not being properly fed and cared for. In a statement, the command described the reports as “unfortunate” and “intended to tarnish its good reputation”.

According to the statement, the command prioritizes the welfare of inmates and ensures they receive proper care, despite the current economic challenges. The statement highlighted the recent increase in the feeding rate for inmates by the Federal Government, which has improved their wellbeing.
The command also emphasized its efforts to empower inmates through educational and vocational skills training, aimed at facilitating their smooth reintegration into society upon release.
The statement urged the public to disregard the reports, which it claimed were misleading and aimed at misinforming the public. The command reassured the public of its commitment to protecting and promoting the human rights of inmates.
The statement was signed by Musbahu Lawan K/Nasarawa, Superintendent of Corrections and Public Relations Officer of the Kano state command.
