Yunus Abdulsalam: A Repository of Service By Abdullahi Haruspice

Described as diligent, resilient and incorrigible, Yunus Abdulsalam stands tall in enviable reference in legal palace. Gifted with the drum loads of experience and expertise, his dexterity cut across the vast domains of litigation, mediation and arbitration, maritime and admiralty, election matters banking, corporate finance, and telecommunications. He has in his kitty, about a decade and half of dexterity in criminal and civil matters with deep foray into election petition matters and debt recovery – a repository of versatility.

Born into Magaji Jaji family, life for Yunus started in 1986 in the ancient city of Ilorin, present day Kwara State, north central Nigeria. Married and blessed with promising children, Yunus is coloured in the labyrinth of law where shadows dance with light.

An alumnus of Lincoln University, United Kingdom and Bayero University, Kano, his educational journey mirrors his legal philosophy—one of continuous growth and unwavering commitment to excellence. Prominent in his legal trajectories was the landmark triumph where he successfully defended Nigeria National Petroleum Commission (NNPC) in high profile civil suit against a Chinese company called ZHEJIANG PUFFA GROUP CO. In a similar situation, Yunus successfully recovered substantial debts for the Nigerian Government in a multi- layered Synergy with AMCON and the Crown Prosecution Service in the United Kingdom for variation of order n related to a High Court of Justice order in the Queen’s Bench Division, Administrative Court. He has personally participated in over 150 cases in both trial and appellate courts. Additionally, he has been a reputable legal consultant concerning Mining licencing and Oil Prospecting Licenses (OPLs). His practice encompasses a diverse range of transactions and matters, representing individuals, corporate entities, and government agencies alike.

With a formidable tenure of over fourteen years , Yunus is not merely a lawyer; he is a sage of the courtroom, deftly balancing the scales of justice with razor-sharp intellect and a pedagogical grace that transforms complexities into solutions.

His keen eye for detail and profound legal acumen breathe life into his practice, as he deftly dissects intricate transactions, offering talismanic solutions that echo through the chambers of justice. He has successfully defended journalists working for premium times and the nation newspaper at one time or the other. He is a member of African Bar and Nigeria Bar Association. His contributions extend beyond the courtroom, serving as a Legal Adviser and Rapporteur for the Centre for Crisis Communication, and offering his voice in defense of journalists and the tenets of free speech.
