When my son-in-law, Usman Balarabe, called to inform me of my appointment as Chief Spokesperson for the presidential and gubernatorial campaign in Kano State, I was, perhaps, surprised because of my little experience.
Nevertheless, I fully understood the magnitude of the responsibility ahead. My principal assignment was to help convince the electorate why Abba Kabir Yusuf and other APC candidates should receive their mandate in the 2027 general elections.
That is certainly no small task, particularly in a politically sophisticated and socially complex society like Kano, where the electorates are highly conscious of political developments, public policies, governance, and the performance of those entrusted with leadership.
Kano is a state with a rich political history and a population whose expectations of leadership are both high and diverse. Winning the confidence of its people requires more than slogans, campaign promises, or political rhetoric. It demands credible information, convincing arguments, demonstrable achievements, and a clear vision for the future.
As a progressive and enlightened society, the people of Kano deserve a leader entirely dedicated to sustainable development. Under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, tangible progress has become evident across the state, speaking volumes without the need for political rhetoric. The administration’s extensive portfolio of projects spans multiple critical sectors—including education, healthcare, human capital development, water resources, urban planning, societal reorientation, and public security—demonstrating a holistic approach to governance.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s simplicity, accessibility, compassion, and deep-seated empathy set him apart from conventional leaders. Known as a natural peacemaker, he consistently prioritizes unity and stability within his administration. In a predominantly Muslim society like Kano, the Governor demonstrates unwavering respect for Islamic tenets while fostering an inclusive environment that respects the beliefs of all residents. This hospitality extends to non-indigenous settlers, whom he accommodates with humility and absolute respect. Furthermore, to foster social stability and support vulnerable citizens, his administration has successfully sponsored state-backed mass weddings for thousands of underprivileged widows, divorcees, and young couples.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s decisive crackdown on social vices—such as drug abuse, phone snatching, and thuggery by establishing the Special Task Force on Drug Abuse and the deployment of anti-phone snatching marshals has significantly enhanced public safety and revitalized commercial activities across Kano State. Concurrently, structured recruitment drives tailored toward unemployed women and youth have provided the state with a clear sense of economic direction. For those lacking conventional employment skills, the administration’s robust mass empowerment programs, including professional entrepreneurship and vocational training, have effectively minimized idleness and fostered productivity.
The people of Kano have tested and come to trust the leadership of His Excellency, Abba Kabir Yusuf. Given their political awareness, social consciousness, and understanding of the state’s political landscape, I believe they have little reason to seek a change of leadership, particularly in view of the caliber of gubernatorial candidates presented by other political parties in Kano State.
As the Chief Spokesperson of the campaign team in Kano State, I consider my responsibility relatively easy because the Governor himself has made my job easier through his performance, achievements, and the confidence he has inspired among the people. My task is simply to communicate his record, highlight his achievements, and present his vision for the future of Kano State to the electorate.
I am deeply indebted to His Excellency for providing additional support that will make my job even easier. By appointing other experienced, articulate, and outspoken spokespersons to work alongside me as a test, the Governor has further Strengthened our collective capacity to communicate his achievements and promote his vision for Kano State.
These distinguished colleagues include Hon. Sunusi Majidadi Kiru, Hon. Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso, Hon. Bashir Sanata, and Hajiya Aisha Sharrif.
With such a formidable team working together, I am confident that we will effectively communicate the Governor’s achievements, counter misinformation, and take his massage to every corner of Kano State, insha Allah.
