Fact Check: Did Channel TV’s Seun Okinbaloye Get Initiated into a Secret Confraternity?

A viral video circulating on social media shows Seun Okinbaloye, the presenter of Politics Today on Channels TV, dressed in an outfit resembling those worn by characters in Nigerian movies who belong to secret societies.

The one-minute video includes accompanying text, suggesting that the seasoned broadcaster is being initiated into an occult society. The text further implies that this could explain why he remains unaffected by the numerous spiritual attacks allegedly aimed at him by politicians he has criticized on his TV shows.

The text reads: “Never underestimate any man, as you don’t know what roots he comes from!
“I hope you can identify the man herein? Yes! He’s the one… Seun Okinbaloye of Channels TV.
“Now you know why all the attacks on him for speaking the truth on Channel Television had no effect on him.Always identify with your roots, as it has its reason!!!”

Verification:

To verify the accuracy of this claim, PRNigeria fact-checked the video by breaking it into segments and conducting a reverse image search using TinEye, a fact-checking tool.

The investigation revealed that Seun Okinbaloye, a graduate of the Department of Performing and Film Arts at the University of Ilorin, had returned to his alma mater to act as the ‘Chief Priest’ or special guest at the Department of Performing and Film Arts’ induction ceremony for newly admitted students.

The university clarified that Okinbaloye’s presence at the event inspired the new students as they began their journey into the world of performing arts. The university stated:

“We’re pleased to share that our distinguished alumnus, Seun Okinbaloye, returned to his roots at the University of Ilorin’s Department of Performing and Film Arts to give back in a remarkable way!
“As the Chief Priest at the department’s induction ceremony on January 17, 2025, Seun Okinbaloye inspired our newly admitted students as they took their first steps into the world of performing arts.”

Further confirmation came when PRNigeria conducted keyword searches on the official X handle (formerly Twitter) of the University of Ilorin. The investigation revealed that Okinbaloye also donated two million naira to his alma mater, a gesture that was greatly appreciated by the university’s management.

Conclusion:
The viral video of Seun Okinbaloye, dressed in attire resembling that of an occult member, was intended for his role as Chief Priest at the induction ceremony in his former department of Performing Arts at the University of Ilorin.

Verdict:
PRNigeria therefore concludes that the suggestion that Seun Okinbaloye, a broadcaster is being inducted into a secret confraternity is misleading and False.
