Fact-check: Did Katsina State’s First Lady, Fatima Radda, Spray Dollars at an Event?

A video clip has been widely shared on social media platforms, particularly Instagram, accompanied by text claiming that Katsina State’s First Lady, Fatimat Dikko Radda, was seen spraying dollars at an event.

The one-minute, nine-second video, alongside the text, criticized the First Lady for allegedly being insensitive to the struggles of citizens in a state plagued by terrorism, kidnapping, widespread begging, and a high number of out-of-school children.

The text accused her of spraying US dollars at the event, accompanied by crying emojis.

The accompanying text reads:

“Katsina State governor’s wife disgustingly spraying stolen US dollars at an event…????

“The same Katsina State where terrorists and kidnappers hold sway, and where the largest number of child beggars and out-of-school children exist, living in hunger, abject poverty, and misery ????

“What an immoral, reckless mindset of hers..????”

Verification:

In verifying the claim, PRNigeria carefully analyzed the video and cross-checked it with another video showing the Katsina First Lady donating N2 million to ease the financial burden of cervical cancer screening in the state.

The investigation revealed a  striking resemblance of the First Lady, in the two videos, both featuring her in different settings.

Additionally, PRNigeria examined the background music of the video in question, where the claim about the First Lady spraying dollars was made. In the background, praise singers could be heard singing in Hausa, “Fatima Radda, the First Lady is like a shadow, who doesn’t discriminate against anyone, and she loves everybody. She looks like a good…”

Further investigation involved splitting the video into smaller segments and conducting a reverse image search via Yandex. This examination confirmed that the Katsina First Lady was indeed spraying dollars at her  sibling’s wedding on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Katsina.

An independent search using relevant keywords also corroborated these findings, confirming that the First Lady did, in fact, spray dollars at the wedding.

Conclusion:

Based on all the evidence gathered by PRNigeria‘s fact-checking team, it is confirmed that Katsina State’s First Lady, Hajiya Fatima Dikko Radda, sprayed dollars at her sibling’s wedding on Saturday, January 25, 2025, in Katsina.

Verdict:

Therefore, PRNigeria concludes that claim that the Katsina First Lady sprayed dollars at an event is true.
