CP Jimoh Breaks Silence on Police Deployment Amid Lagos Speaker Saga
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare M. Jimoh, has announced an ongoing police personnel audit aimed at ensuring officers assigned to individuals and groups are properly accounted for and deployed legally. The exercise, which is a routine nationwide procedure, is designed to track police personnel, their firearms, and equipment, as well as to withdraw officers assigned to unauthorized duty posts.
Addressing journalists at a press briefing, CP Jimoh emphasized that the initiative is in the public interest and aims to strengthen security across the state. “Lagos, with a population exceeding 20 million, has fewer than 18,000 police personnel. We need more officers deployed to police posts, stations, and divisions to enhance public safety,” he stated.
The Commissioner revealed that the audit has already led to the withdrawal of officers from individuals who lack valid approvals for police protection. “Prominent personalities and business executives with no valid approvals are urged to revalidate their requests or apply afresh to the Inspector-General of Police,” he added.

As part of the exercise, police officers previously attached to Hon. Mojisola Meranda have been returned to her after completing the audit process. Meanwhile, security for Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, was approved following reports of threats to his life and family. However, the Command clarified that it was unaware of any break-in at the Speaker’s office and reaffirmed its neutrality in political matters.
Reinforcements have been deployed to the Lagos State House of Assembly to prevent any security threats. “The deployment includes Police Mobile Force units, Counter Terrorism Units, Special Protection Units, Bomb Squads, and Armored Personnel Carriers,” CP Jimoh said, assuring Lagosians that law and order are under control.
The Lagos State Police Command urged the public to remain calm and go about their lawful activities without fear. “We remain committed to ensuring security and will not be drawn into political matters within the Assembly or elsewhere,” the Commissioner affirmed.
For individuals requiring police protection, CP Jimoh advised them to channel their requests through the appropriate authorities at the Force Headquarters.
The police reiterated its commitment to professionalism, accountability, and the safety of all Lagosians.
