Son Arrested for Murdering 68-Year-Old Mother in Anambra
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, for allegedly murdering his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji, in Ekwulobia.
The suspect reportedly attempted to take his own life after committing the heinous crime.
According to the police, the motive behind the murder was a dispute over money realized from a cassava business, with the suspect accusing his mother of dishonesty.
A statement issued by SP Tochukwu Ikenga Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka, today said, an axe was recovered from the scene, and the suspect is currently in custody, under close monitoring to prevent further harm.

In a separate operation, the police arrested 12 suspects, aged between 20 and 29, for selling and taking hard drugs in Orumba North Local Government Area.
He said, “The suspects are: Ifeanyi Bernard, Emmanuel Ugwu, Thankgod Kelechi, Umeh Chidera, Aguiyi Onyeka, Onyeka Martin, Festus Ihezie, Chibundu Nicholas, Solomon Obiefule, Chibundu Daniel, Neke Shedrack and Nwazufu Kingsley all males and within the age bracket of 20 – 29 years.
“They have been handed over to Operatives of Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for necessary action.
The suspects, who were operating a criminal drugs camp, were found with dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit substances.
