AGAIN, ISWAP Militants Bomb Bridge in Yobe, Cut Off Access Across Communities

In a renewed wave of insurgent violence, suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have destroyed a key bridge connecting Ngurbuwa and Goniri communities in Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Security sources confirmed to counter-terrorism analyst Zagazola that the militants carried out the attack around 10:30 p.m. on Thursday, detonating explosives that brought down the last remaining section of the old bridge.

The destruction has effectively severed movement between the two communities, causing hardship and isolation for residents.

A local vigilante member in Gujba, speaking anonymously, told LEADERSHIP that the bridge was bombed shortly after the terrorists infiltrated Goniri village. A village head, also requesting anonymity for safety reasons, confirmed the attack and decried the hardship now faced by locals who struggle to cross the damaged link.

“The destruction has brought untold suffering. People can’t reach their farmlands or even visit relatives across the communities,” the traditional leader lamented.

Residents have called for immediate government intervention. Mallam Aliyu, a resident of Ngurbuwa, appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to deploy more security forces to Gujba and surrounding areas to restore safety and stability.

According to him, persistent attacks by insurgents believed to be Boko Haram elements have left communities in Gujba, Buni Yadi, Goniri, and Katarko in constant fear.

“Our farmers and traders can no longer go about their daily activities. People are abandoning their homes and livelihoods due to insecurity,” Aliyu said.

Residents are urging both federal and state authorities to reinforce security presence and protect remaining infrastructure from further terrorist sabotage.
