Anambra Police Arrest Suspected Robbery Gang Member, Recover Stolen Motorcycle
A 20-year-old suspected armed robber, Nnaji Chukwuka, has been arrested by operatives of the Anambra State Police Command in connection with a string of motorcycle thefts and violent robberies that have plagued the Nnewichi community in Nnewi North Local Government Area.
The suspect was apprehended on Wednesday, May 29, by police operatives attached to the Otolo-Nnewi Police Station following what authorities described as a “painstaking operation” after weeks of surveillance and multiple complaints from residents.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police recovered a Honda Cub 120 motorcycle believed to have been stolen by the gang, along with a machete allegedly used in their criminal activities.

“The arrest is a result of sustained intelligence gathering and strategic monitoring of the gang’s operations. The suspect is currently assisting the police with valuable information that may lead to the apprehension of other members of the syndicate,” SP Ikenga said in a statement issued Friday morning.
The recovered motorcycle has since been returned to its rightful owner, police confirmed.
Residents of Nnewichi and surrounding areas have for months raised alarms over the activities of motorcycle-snatching gangs operating under the cover of darkness, often armed with machetes and other dangerous weapons. The arrest is expected to bring some relief to the community.
The police say investigations are ongoing and further developments will be communicated in due course.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order in the state and urged residents to continue providing timely information to aid security efforts.
