Shekarau Mourns as Road Accident Claims Kano Athletes
Former Governor of Kano State and Senator representing Kano Central, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic road accident that claimed the lives of 21 athletes and several officials from the state.
In a condolence message released on Saturday, Senator Shekarau, the Sardaunan Kano, described the incident as a heartbreaking loss not only to the bereaved families but to the entire state and the nation at large.

The victims were reportedly returning from the recently concluded National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where they had represented Kano with distinction, when the accident occurred at Dakatsalle in Garun Malam Local Government Area.
“As the state was preparing to receive these patriotic sons and daughters of Kano, who had made us proud through their commitment and performance at the sports festival, we were instead greeted with this devastating news,” Shekarau lamented.
While mourning the tragic loss, the former governor expressed consolation in the fact that the young athletes died while on a noble assignment, serving their state with honour and dedication.
He offered prayers for the souls of the departed, asking the Almighty to grant them eternal rest and give their families, teammates, and the entire Kano community the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
